About Ivan

Ivan A. Andarza, is a 16 year resident of U.S. House District 21.  He was born in Brownsville, Texas.  He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration, with a major in finance, from The University of Texas at Austin (1993) and his Juris Doctor from Baylor University School of Law (1997). 

In 2007, He was appointed by Governor Rick Perry and confirmed by the Texas Senate, to serve on the Board of the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation. He served as board chair from 2010 to 2015. During his tenure as chair he led the organization through its transformation from a public non-profit quasi-governmental entity to an independent non-profit. As chair he presided over the corporation’s contribution of $248 million to the state’s Hazelwood Program to assist veterans in attending post-secondary education, $50 million to the state’s TEXAS Grants Program, and $25 million to the state’s T-Stem Challenge Grant Program. Mr. Andarza is a strong believer in higher education and it’s ability to transform lives and strengthen our economy.

In 2013, he was also appointed to the Board of Regents of the Texas State Technical College System, where he currently serves as vice chair.

Mr. Andarza practices law in Austin, Texas and has ample experience in how laws passed by Congress impact real people.  In his legal career he has handled everything from bankruptcy law, federal criminal law, and immigration.  He has advocated for his clients with federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, Labor Department, and Department of Justice.

Mr. Andarza is married to Elvia M. Andarza and they have two children, Ivan Alexander and Nicolas Arturo.
